Ermir Bejo (b. 1987, Tirana, Albania) is a composer of contemporary classical and electronic music. His work delves into the interplay of memory, fragmentation, and the dream-like logic of the unconscious, creating intricate sound worlds that are at once abstract and deeply felt. Drawing on a wide range of influences, including visual art, cinema, literature, mathematics, and philosophy, he creates new expressive possibilities by weaving fragments of tradition into experimental forms. His music has been recognized with an ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Award and as a finalist for the Prix CIME, among other honors. Additionally, it is featured at leading international festivals such as the Darmstädter Ferienkurse and Mexico's Foro Internacional de Música Nueva Manuel Enríquez. His compositions have been performed worldwide by acclaimed ensembles including Amorsima Trio, Ums ‘n Jip, Calliope Duo, Nova, and Duo Chromatica, as well as by renowned soloists such as Irvine Arditti, Elizabeth McNutt, Redi Llupa, Małgorzata Walentynowicz, Fidan Aghayeva-Edler, Yumi Suehiro, Alexander Richards, and Juan Sebastian Delgado.
Beyond his creative work, Bejo helps shape the contemporary music ecosystem as co-founder and director of Score Follower. This pioneering digital platform has redefined how audiences, performers, and composers engage with new music worldwide. Bejo’s career also bridges music production and education. He is Technical Director at the Margo Jones Performance Hall at Texas Woman’s University, overseeing concert production and recording with an approach that blends technical skill and creative vision. At the University of North Texas, he teaches composition and electronic music, building on his earlier role as audio technical director, where he collaborated closely with its acclaimed big bands and jazz ensembles on ambitious performance and recording projects.
Bejo is a graduate of United World College (UWC) Adriatic in Italy, where he studied art history and world cultures. He holds degrees in music composition from Skidmore College (BA), the University of Louisville (MM), and the University of North Texas (PhD). His principal teachers were Joseph Klein, Panayiotis Kokoras, Andrew May, Marc Satterwhite, and Krzysztof Wołek. He has also taken part in masterclasses with renowned composers including Salvatore Sciarrino, James Dillon, Chaya Czernowin, and Esa-Pekka Salonen.
